Hygiene Supervisor

We’re looking for a Hygiene Supervisor to lead and support our hygiene team, ensuring our site remains clean, safe, and fully compliant with food safety standards. SUMMARY AND PURPOSE OF ROLE:  The Hygiene Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing the site hygiene function to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety, and compliance are consistently achieved. The role ensures the site remains audit-ready at all times and promotes a strong food safety and quality culture across the business.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY INCLUDE:

The role primarily includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Hygiene & Compliance

  • Ensure the site is audit-ready at all times.
  • Maintain and manage site hygiene standards, carrying out routine inspections and verification activities.
  • Monitor and verify cleaning activities to ensure effectiveness.
  • Carry out chemical testing, environmental swabbing, allergen swabbing (where applicable), and follow up on results.
  • Monitor and record water temperatures in line with hygiene and safety requirements.
  • Implement full root cause analysis on all investigations raised and ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed effectively.
  • Sign off all Q-Pulse actions, including deep cleaning schedules and asset register updates.
  • Supervise, support, and develop the Hygiene Team.
  • Maintain the Time and Attendance system for the Hygiene Team, including clocking, holiday authorisation, and absence management.
  • Conduct performance reviews, return-to-work interviews, and disciplinary investigations where required.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet operational requirements.
  • Produce and develop Cleaning Instruction Cards (CICs).
  • Train the Hygiene Team against CICs and all procedures associated with chemical handling and safe working practices.
  • Ensure team members are trained in COSHH, safe chemical handling, PPE use, and food safety practices.
  • Purchase and maintain appropriate stock levels of hygiene chemicals, PPE, footwear, and consumables.
  • Ensure safe storage, handling, and usage of chemicals in line with COSHH requirements.
  • Liaise with chemical suppliers regarding technical support, dosing systems, and product optimisation.
  • Maintain hygiene equipment, ensuring all items and appliances are serviced, tested, and maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Report damages or defects promptly and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Support the Engineering team during planned preventative maintenance activities affecting hygiene equipment.
  • Review cleaning processes and identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency and effectiveness.

OUTPUTS & DELIVERABLES:

  • Site maintained in a continuous audit-ready condition.
  • Completed and signed-off hygiene verification records (daily, weekly, periodic).
  • 100% completion of scheduled deep cleaning activities.
  • Timely closure of hygiene-related non-conformances within agreed deadlines.
  • Zero tolerance breaches in chemical handling procedures.
  • Near-miss reporting and proactive risk reduction measures implemented.

BACKGROUND & PROFILE:

  • Experience in a food manufacturing or high-care environment.
  • Strong knowledge of hygiene standards, chemical handling, and food safety systems.
  •  Experience supervising or leading a team.
  •  Good IT skills and experience using compliance or quality systems (e.g., Q-Pulse).

WORKING HOURS:

10PM-6AM Monday to Friday- Flexibility around these hours may be required for business needs.

Summary and purpose of Role:

  • To participate in the high standard of hygiene as is required for a food producing factory and carry out the hygiene tasks assigned to you
  • To develop competence in all areas of basic skills described below

Entry Level hygiene operatives will effectively carry out a cleaning process for the following areas and pieces of equipment:

  • Wash stations and changing rooms
  • Offices
  • W/Cs
  • Canteen
  • All low risk and High care areas and equipment across both sites
  • Carrying out Laundry procedures
  • Removing waste to the compactors and operating the compactors
  • Supporting production lines washout
  • Replenishing overalls, toilets paper, soap, sanitiser, etc.

  • Prepared to develop skills through the company’s training programme as required

Upon employment, Entry Level operatives should successfully complete training in the following areas:

Quality Assurance skills

  • Foreign Body training
  • HACCP
  • Food Safety for manufacturing level 2
  • Holchem essential cic system
  • Allergen training

Health & Safety Skills

  • Manual handling training
  • COSHH training
  • Emergency procedures training

Background & profile:

  • Present yourself and a professional and courteous manner at all times
  • Achieve required pass mark in English language aptitude test
  • Willing to work overtime including weekends when required
  • Ensure you meet the standards of personal hygiene required by the business at all times

Working Pattern:

  • 10pm-6am Monday-Friday

Requirements:

  • Previous hygiene experience within manufacturing required
  • Previous experience within food manufacturing desired
